CSCI 6610		  Automata and Formal Languages		     Spring 2004



   There are several versions of the text "Introduction to the Theory of
Computation" by Michael Sipser.

   There was a previous "Preliminary Edition" in paperback (Chs. 0-7 only,
in a draft version) which you DON'T WANT.

   The current hardback edition (Chs. 0-10) has been through several printings.
Substantial changes were made in producing the second printing, so you
DON'T WANT the first printing.  Any printing which is 2nd, 3rd, or later is
fine (any differences are minor).  To tell which printing you are looking at,
turn to the copyright page (opposite the first page of the Table of Contents).
Half way down on the right side of the page is a sequence of the following sort:
		  98 99 00 -- 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2
in which the first number indicates the year of the printing (1998 here) and
the last number indicates the all-important printing (2nd here).
