Introduction to Automata Theory, Languages, and Computation,
3rd edition, by Hopcroft, Motwani and Ullman.
The call number is SPC R663at; HMU is the reading list reference.
This is a standard text.
It contains more detail on some topics, and sections on different
applications, than Sudkamp's book. Consult the
web site
for a table of contents and other information.

Introduction to Automata Theory, Languages, and Computation,
1st edition, by Hopcroft and Ullman.
The call number is QA267 .H56 c2; HU is the reading list
reference.
This is a classic text which is out of print. It contains
some topics beyond the scope of our course, but also very clear

WebCT has
sample solutions to Homework Sets 1--11, along with the grades for
Homework Sets 1--11 and Tests 1--2.
-
There is a typo in the HW 2 solutions on WebCT; for 2.36, second
line, correct this by inserting "b" between the consecutive factors
of (aa)* in the first half of the line.
-
There is a typo in the HW 4 solutions on WebCT; on p. 2 the first
configuration in the first line should be [q_2, b] (not [q_2, bb]), and
the same on the second line.
-
There is an error in the HW 5 solutions (part 1) on WebCT; on
p. 4 it should read that L_2 = L_1^{*} = a*aa, which is obviously regular.
-
There is an error in the HW 7 solutions (part 1) on WebCT;
this is noted in the HW 7 solutions (part 2) on WebCT. Other corrections
and additions to the HW 7 solutions (part 1) are included in the replacement
version posted to WebCT Nov. 1.
-
There is an error in the HW 10 solutions on WebCT; for 11.9(a)
it should read 0*10(0 U 1)*.
